Praia do Forte is on the north bank of the Mondego estuary, at the southern end of Figueira da Foz's great beach. It is an estuary beach where river and sea water mix, and the Portuguese Environment Agency describes it as heavily used. A lifeguard is on duty in the bathing season, and the official list calls it Praia do Forte (Farol). Being at the river mouth, its water quality is more affected by river discharges than open-sea beaches. Water quality was rated Sufficient in 2025.
