About the beach

Castelo do Queijo beach sits at the northern end of Porto's seafront, beside the São Francisco Xavier fort, known as Castelo do Queijo, close to the boundary with Matosinhos. It is an urban beach with a long stretch of sand, edged by the seafront promenade and surrounded by rocky outcrops. A lifeguard is on duty in the bathing season. You can walk there along the promenade from Foz or Matosinhos. In rough seas the rocks call for care when getting into the water. Water quality was rated Sufficient in 2025.
