Matosinhos Beach is the big urban beach just north of Porto, with its own metro stop (Matosinhos Sul) and several bus routes close by. The council describes a long, busy stretch of white sand with beach football and volleyball pitches, an outdoor gym and sunshade hire. Surfers and bodyboarders turn up mainly when the sea is rougher. In Praça Cidade S. Salvador stands Janet Echelman's 2005 sculpture She Changes, locally called the Anémona (sea anemone). In 2026 it was a lifeguarded bathing beach.
