About the Beach

Matosinhos Beach is Porto's proximity beach — reachable in about 20 minutes by Metro (Yellow Line, Matosinhos Sul station) from the city centre. This direct metropolitan connection makes it one of the best-served urban beaches by public transport in northern Europe.

Despite proximity to Leixões harbour and the oil terminal, Matosinhos is Porto's most consistent surf spot, with a rock-free beach break that works year-round. The seafront is punctuated by the Grande Porto's most famous seafood restaurants — Matosinhos shellfish is a national gastronomic reference.

Surfing zones are demarcated by buoys; bathing is in designated areas away from surf zones. Water quality: check the annual APA report before visiting — port proximity can cause seasonal variations. Parking along the entire seafront. Walking or Metro recommended in high season.
