The beach on Ilha da Culatra lies at the eastern end of this Ria Formosa barrier island, next to the fishing village of Culatra; the Culatra-Mar bathing area belongs to the municipality of Faro. Access is by boat, with scheduled crossings from Olhão all year round and from Faro in summer. From the jetty you walk through the village and then across the dunes on a 500 m raised boardwalk to the sea. The beach faces south-east, with toilets, beach facilities and lifeguards in season, and restaurants close by.
