About the beach
River beach on the sandy right bank of the River Mondego, at Portela, between the Rainha Santa Isabel and Portela bridges, and busy because it is so close to the city. It lies within the reservoir of the Coimbra weir-bridge, so it is affected by flows from the dams upstream. It has lifeguard cover, a bar, a restaurant, a picnic area and parking with reserved spaces, and is an Accessible Beach. On 21-22 July 2026 bathing was advised against as a precaution.
