About the beach
Sandy beach on the bay of Praia da Vitória, Terceira, just south of Praia Grande. Its name comes from the servicemen of the nearby Lajes air base, who for years were almost its only users. There is a bar and open-air parking; the seabed is sandy and the beach is very exposed to the sea. Bathing is banned whenever the sewage pumping station at its northern edge fails. In 2026 it is a bathing water from 15 June to 15 September, with no guaranteed lifeguard cover under the Portaria. Water quality was rated Excellent in 2025.
