Praia do Telheiro

About the beach

This is the last beach on the west coast before Cape St Vincent, near Sagres. It is fairly sheltered from the cold northerly wind and is reached by a steep path down the limestone ledges of the cliff. Here the dark schist of the west coast meets the sedimentary rocks of the south, orange sandstone, red Silves sandstone and pale limestone, producing a remarkable variety of rock formations. Birds of prey are often seen over the surrounding fields. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
