Praia de Sagres lies near the south-westernmost point of mainland Portugal, a few kilometres from Cabo de São Vicente. The beach is open and frequently windy, with swell conditions that make it popular with surfers. Water quality is Excellent. The setting is defined by the Promontório and the Fortaleza de Sagres — one of the most dramatically positioned coastal fortresses in the country. Sagres has a strong identity of its own: an end-of-the-world atmosphere, with Atlantic sunsets that are among the most impressive on the entire Algarve coast.
