Cabedelo do Douro is the sand spit on the south bank of the Douro mouth, in Canidelo (Gaia), facing Foz in Porto and north of Lavadores beach. It borders the Douro Estuary Local Nature Reserve, which you can explore freely on boardwalks leading to two viewpoints. You can get there on foot, by bike or by car from Afurada, and there is a café. It is popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing, but the river-mouth currents make swimming dangerous. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
