Praia do Barranco das Belharucas

About the beach

A wide golden-sand beach, about 540 m long, east of Olhos de Água, where the limestone cliffs give way to soft, deeply gullied cliffs of sand and clay topped by stone pines and junipers. It is reached along the bed of a seasonal stream through a wooded ravine; the dirt track may not suit cars and walking is recommended. It is named after the bee-eaters that nest in the cliffs. To the east the sand runs on as far as Vilamoura Marina.
