About the beach
Pebble and dark-sand beach taking up the western side of Machico bay, between the mouth of the Machico stream and the São Roque chapel, built for Tristão Vaz Teixeira in 1489. Access is free from the seafront promenade, and VisitMadeira points to the Fórum Machico car park nearby. It has toilets, showers, a first-aid post and restaurants close by, with lifeguards in the bathing season. It sits across the stream from Machico's golden-sand beach. Water quality was rated Good in 2025.
