About the beach
Beach near Burgau, bounded by rugged limestone cliffs, which narrows at high tide. Beachgoers use the abundant pebbles to build semicircular windbreaks, and at the eastern end a pontoon is a popular fishing spot. A coastal path links the beach to Boca do Rio, passing the 17th-century Almádena Fortress, built to protect tuna fishing from pirates.
