About the beach
Pebble and black-sand beach in Calheta village on Madeira's west coast, flanked by two artificial jetties and about 600 metres east of the yellow-sand beach by the marina. According to the regional environment directorate's profile, the area has a hotel, bars and restaurants, a supermarket and a car park, with the Atouguia stream to the west. It is in the 2026 Portaria as a bathing water from 1 July to 1 October, with no guaranteed lifeguard cover. Water quality was rated Excellent in 2025.
