Póvoa de Varzim beach is the town's urban seafront: a run of adjoining beaches along the promenade, from Lagoa down to Redonda. The council describes golden sand lined with awnings and small wooden beach bars, with a paved road and a pedestrian promenade along the whole stretch. Lagoa is a small cove of white sand where low tide uncovers rocks and natural pools, while the Urbana Sul I section is noted as suitable for surfing. A strong northerly wind, the nortada, often blows in summer. Porto's metro line B runs to the town.
