About the beach
According to Matosinhos Council, this is where Dom Pedro landed in 1832 with some 7,500 men, an event marked by the Obelisco da Memória, which gives the beach its name. The dunes behind the long beach are part of the Praia da Memória Dune Park. It includes neighbouring Cabo do Mundo beach, where rocks separate the sand from the sea. Both have an amphibious wheelchair. In August 2026, bathing was advised against because of microbiological contamination.
