Praia da Batata lies a few metres from the historic centre of Lagos, between the Bensafrim river breakwater and Praia dos Estudantes, next to the Ponta da Bandeira fort. It is an urban beach: part of the cliff behind the sand has been reinforced with rock and topped by a paved square, and the rocky nooks give shelter from the wind. In the bathing season there are beach facilities and a lifeguard. It is part of the 2026 Accessible Beach programme, with equipment to help people into the water. A tunnel cut through the rock leads to Praia dos Estudantes. Water quality was rated Good in 2025.
