Paul do Mar is a fishing village on Madeira's south-west coast, in the municipality of Calheta, on a narrow strip between the cliffs and the sea. The shore is pebbles and rock. Visit Madeira lists it among the island's surf spots, with consistent, big, hollow waves. For swimming there are two official bathing waters by the village: Praia do Porto, next to the small harbour, and Ribeira das Galinhas to the north-west, both with a 2026 bathing season from 15 June to 15 September. Both were rated Excellent for water quality in 2025.
