About the beach
In the parish of Porto Judeu, the Bay of Refugo was formed by lava flows from the Algar do Carvão volcano and was once used as a slipway by fishermen. It has a concrete natural pool with direct access to the sea, a basalt-slab bottom, a games area and showers. It is on the 2026 Praia Acessível (accessible beach) list and was awarded a Blue Flag in 2025.
