About the beach

A bathing area on a lava fajã on Faial's south coast, with two saltwater natural pools in rock and concrete, the smaller one suitable for children, and open-sea bathing over basalt slabs. Its mild microclimate makes this former fishing settlement a popular summer spot. Nearby stand the old Varadouro spa baths, opened in 1954 and now abandoned.
