About the beach
A volcanic-sand beach about 350 metres long in a sheltered bay next to the centre of Horta and Monte da Guia, within the Faial Natural Park. The sea has little swell and a sandy seabed, making it suitable for children and weaker swimmers. It has toilets, showers, a bar and parking; the bay is also home to the former whale factory, now a museum.
