About the beach

A beach about a kilometre long, with pale sand owing to calcareous particles, unusual in the Azores, clear water and a sandy seabed, in a bay ringed by green slopes. It has good conditions for water sports and is one of the best surf spots on Santa Maria. There are toilets, showers, a bar, a lifeguard and a campsite, and it hosts the Maré de Agosto festival.
