About the beach

A concrete platform and saltwater natural pool at Maia, in the parish of Santo Espírito, on the south-east coast of Santa Maria, at the foot of a cliff. You can also swim in the open sea, over basalt slabs, along a shore of black volcanic rock, clear water and many fishing spots. It has sun terraces and support facilities and held the Blue Flag every season from 2017 to 2025.
