About the beach
An islet about 500 metres offshore, the remains of an ancient submarine volcanic cone whose crater, about 150 metres across, forms a natural pool linked to the sea by a small opening. It is a protected area, reached only by boat from Vila Franca during the bathing season, with a limited number of visitors. Bathing was banned in 2025 because of poor water quality and reopened in 2026.
