About the beach
River beach in the centre of the schist village of Benfeita, where the Mata and Carcavão streams meet, near Fraga da Pena and the Mata da Margaraça forest. A weir forms a pool with a sandy left bank; there is a lifeguard in the bathing season, a bar with a terrace, changing rooms and ramps for people with reduced mobility. The water was classified as poor ("Má") in 2025, so check bathing advice locally.
