About the beach

Town beach on Sesimbra bay, west of the 17th-century Fortaleza de Santiago, with Praia da Califórnia on the other side. The sea is usually calm and the sand shelves gently, with no shallows. A 2013 upgrade added a raised, lit footpath from the ramp opposite the Hotel do Mar to the harbour. Facilities include toilets, a beach stadium with stands, a beach library, a playground and concessions with food, shade and showers. Blue Flag and Praia Acessível (accessible beach) awards in 2026.
