About the beach

Beach south of Areia Branca, known locally simply as Areal: a long stretch of sand surrounded by dunes, not very sheltered from the wind and with a usually rough sea. It is popular with surfers and bodyboarders and has hosted national surfing events. According to Lourinhã tourism, the sheer length of the beach means you can find peace and quiet even at the height of summer. Water quality rated Excellent in 2025; Blue Flag and Praia Acessível (accessible beach) awards in 2026.
