About the beach

A narrow beach below the Fort of Paimogo, built in 1674, north of Areia Branca in Lourinhã. The water is usually calm and is popular for diving, spearfishing and angling; there are also conditions for surfing and bodyboarding. There is a bar and a restaurant. Dinosaur fossils and eggs were found here and are now in the Lourinhã Museum, and at low tide you can see José Saramago's face carved into the rocks by Vhils in 2020. The cliff beneath the fort is eroding. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
