Odeceixe Beach
The natural border between the Algarve and Alentejo — river, lagoon and ocean on the same beach.
Beach Information
About the Beach
The Ribeira de Seixe river marks the exact natural border between the Algarve and Alentejo — and empties precisely at the northern end of this beach. The result is unique: two completely different swimming environments on the same stretch of sand. On the Atlantic side, consistent swell for surfers; on the lagoon side, shallow calm water ideal for children and less experienced swimmers.
Part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park (PNSACV), Odeceixe beach has held Blue Flag status since 2012. The black slate cliffs with quartz veins framing the northern beach display a unique visual stratification — tectonic layers exposed by millennia of Atlantic erosion.
Access via a dirt track from Odeceixe village (3 km), with parking at the cliff top and a walk down. In July and August demand exceeds parking capacity — arriving before 9am is recommended. Seasonal restaurant and beach facilities on the descent.
