About the beach

Almada's first Atlantic beach after the mouth of the Tagus, in front of the fishing village of Cova do Vapor, north of São João da Caparica. The sand is wide and long, split in two by a groyne that forms part of the river bar. In the bathing season (1 June to 30 September 2026) it has lifeguards and a concession with sunshade hire, toilets, a restaurant and parking. Almada council lists surfing, bodyboarding and stand-up paddleboarding among the activities. Water quality was rated Excellent in 2025.
