About the Beach

Stretching over 25 km of continuous sand, Costa da Caparica is Portugal's longest urban beach and Lisbon's primary seaside escape — reachable in 30 minutes by public transport from the city centre. It divides into 29 numbered zones, each with its own character: family, surf, naturism, and nightlife.

Lisbon's Port Authority and the APA signed a sediment nourishment protocol to counter coastal erosion: beach sand is replenished annually using dredged material from the Tagus estuary. A delicate balance between urban development and coastal preservation that defines Caparica.

The northern zone has full facilities and Blue Flag status; further south the numbers rise and the beach becomes progressively wilder. Access via A2+IC20 motorway or ferry and bus from Praça do Comércio. In low season, a near-deserted cinematic landscape.
