Ericeira beach, also called Praia do Sul, close to the town centre and easy to reach on foot. It is a long strip of sand backed by cliffs, with a small natural pool at its northern end; at low tide rock pools form where children play. The name comes from a whale that washed ashore in 1872. There are beach bars, public changing rooms and showers, and the concessions put up striped awnings. There are waves for surfing and bodyboarding. Water quality rated Excellent in 2025; Blue Flag in 2026.
