About the beach

Fajã da Areia is on Madeira's north coast, just east of the town of São Vicente. It is mainly a surf spot: according to Visit Madeira, Fajã da Areia is what made São Vicente known for surfing, on a coast of volcanic scenery, with waves for intermediate and advanced surfers and, when the sea allows, beginners too. The nearest official bathing area is the São Vicente Clube Naval, about 550 metres away. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
