About the beach

Dark-sand beach on São Miguel's north coast, just west of Ribeira Grande town centre and about 650 metres from the Poças da Ribeira Grande pools. It is one of the island's most consistent surf spots: Azores Tourism lists several peaks along the beach, waves for beginners through to experienced surfers, and good windsurfing and kitesurfing. You get there by car via Rua da Feira, in Conceição parish. It is fully exposed to northerly swells. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
