About the beach

A golden-sand beach with dunes, about 410 m long, east of Quarteira and south-east of the lagoon that forms at the mouth of the Almargem stream, where waterbirds can be seen. On the western side the beach narrows and the sea reaches the cliffs, topped by pines. When the sea strips the sand, Roman fish-salting tanks are exposed; the Loulé Velho archaeological site, a Roman villa, has been the subject of excavations. It holds the Praia Acessível 2026 award.
