Beach guide
Praia de São Rafael is in the municipality of Albufeira, reached from the road between Guia and Galé. The sand is framed by warm-toned, heavily fractured limestone cliffs, shaped by sea and rain into arches, caves, sinkholes and sea stacks; the Ponte Pequena and the Ninho das Andorinhas are two examples. When the water is clear you can make out the submerged rocks, and a mask and fins reveal the marine life along this stretch. The beach faces south, with a large car park, a restaurant and lifeguards over a long season, from 15 May to 15 October.
