About the beach
Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries Granja was a fashionable seaside resort, frequented by the royal family and by writers such as Ramalho Ortigão and Eça de Queirós; the old chalets surrounded by greenery still define the place. The sand is a narrow strip, with rocks in the water to the north and centre. The salt-water municipal pools stand next to the beach, and there is good access for people with reduced mobility.
