Amoreira Beach
Aljezur River estuary on the Vicentine Coast — calm lagoon for children and Atlantic waves for surfers, same beach.
Beach Information
About the Beach
The Aljezur River travels about 10 km from the medieval village of Aljezur to the ocean, forming a wide shallow estuary lagoon at the southern end of the beach. This dual personality is Amoreira's greatest asset: from the same stretch of sand, the lagoon offers calm, warm, shallow water ideal for children; the Atlantic front presents consistent swell for bodyboarding and surfing.
Amoreira Beach is part of the Rota Vicentina's Fishermen's Trail, a coastal route cited by Condé Nast Traveller among the world's most beautiful. The estuary is habitat for kingfishers, bee-eaters, herons and egrets — birdlife observable year-round, with greatest diversity between March and September. Blue Flag certified.
Access via dirt road from Aljezur (7 km); clear Rota Vicentina signage. Free parking at the cliff top with a 5-minute walk down. Seasonal beach facilities and restaurant. Within PNSACV — fires and camping prohibited.
