About the beach
Small black-sand beaches at the foot of Fajã de Lopo Vaz on the south coast of Flores, south-west of Lajes town. There is no road access: the PRC04FLO trail (3.4 km, moderate, about 2 hours) starts at the picnic area at the top and descends by dirt tracks and basalt steps to the fajã, whose microclimate supports figs, guavas and bananas. Azores Trails warns of rockfall from the cliffs, which are more than 350 metres high, and access is restricted in bad weather. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
