About the Beach

Set within Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Guincho Beach combines Atlantic wilderness with proximity to Lisbon — just 35 km of scenic road from the city centre. Long dunes and dominant northerly winds have made this one of Europe's most celebrated windsurfing and kitesurfing spots.

Guincho was the setting for the opening sequence of the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969), where George Lazenby rescues Tracy DiVicenzo from the surf. The beach retains the same wild grandeur that captivated filmmakers over half a century ago.

Strong currents and irregular swell call for caution even for experienced swimmers. Best season for surfers and kitesurfers: June to September. Paid parking near the beach; restaurant with views of Santa Marta lighthouse.
