Praia do Abano

About the beach

A small white-sand beach just north of Guincho, in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, hidden from the road and sheltered from the strong winds. You reach it along a narrow dirt track beside a pine wood, where there is parking and a restaurant with a terrace; a long staircase next to the restaurant leads down to the sand. The beach is short, almost disappears at high tide and has lost its sand in the past through lack of sediment. The sea is often rough; it is used for surfing and bodyboarding. It is not an official bathing water: the water is not tested and there is no lifeguard.
