Portugal Travel Hub is an editorial portal — not an automatic aggregator. Every page, every beach, every recommendation is the result of deliberate choices about what to publish, how to publish it, and with what responsibility.

Editorial mission

Our purpose is simple: to help those visiting the Portuguese coastline to plan better — with useful, up-to-date and honest information about beaches, surf, fishing and coastal destinations.

We do not produce content for search volume. We produce content because we believe there is a lack of organised, quality information about the Portuguese coastline — and that this has real value for those who visit and for those who live here.

How we select and organise information

The information published on the portal comes from three main sources:

  • Official sources: water quality and Blue Flags from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and Instituto Hidrográfico; weather forecasts from IPMA.
  • Editorial curation: manual assessment of beaches, destinations and partners by the editorial team, based on criteria such as accessibility, services, safety and relevance for different visitor profiles.
  • Real-time data: surf conditions, tides, webcams and water temperature from specialist external services — which may have latency and should be confirmed before any visit.

Editorial curation vs. real-time data

It is important to distinguish two types of information on the portal:

Editorial content — descriptive texts, guides, ratings and recommendations — is produced and reviewed by our team. It reflects research and editorial judgement, not automatic updates. This content changes less frequently but has greater depth.

Real-time data — wave conditions, tides, water temperature, webcams — is provided by external services and presented based on their technical availability. It may contain inaccuracies or delays. It is indicative, not definitive.

Geographic coverage and project scope

The portal covers the Portuguese mainland coastline and islands, with a focus on the regions with the highest coastal tourism demand:

  • Algarve — most extensive coverage, with greater detail per beach
  • Lisbon and Setúbal Coast — focus on surf, accessibility and urban profile
  • Silver Coast (Nazaré, Peniche) — surf and fishing
  • Green Coast (Porto and Minho) — river and ocean beaches
  • Alentejo Coast — nature tourism and low-density travel
  • Madeira and the Azores — coverage expanding

Coverage depth varies by region. Some areas have detailed pages per beach; others have more summary coverage. We are continuously expanding.

What you should always confirm before visiting

The portal is a planning resource — it does not replace direct verification before a visit. We recommend always confirming:

  • Current weather conditions on the day of your visit (IPMA)
  • Bathing warnings or prohibitions (harbour authorities and APA)
  • Beach support and lifeguard timetables (local councils)
  • Accessibility and parking during the high season
  • Wind and swell conditions for surf or fishing (24 hours before)

Editorial responsibility: Portugal Travel Hub assumes responsibility for the editorial content it produces directly. We do not assume responsibility for data from external services, unpredictable weather conditions or last-minute changes to beaches and services. The final decision always rests with the visitor.
