Porto Covo Beach
18th-century fishing village and northern gateway to the Vicentine Coast — coves between dramatic cliffs.
Beach Information
About the Beach
Porto Covo marks the northern entrance to the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park — all coastline south of São Torpes is protected. The village, with typically Alentejo whitewashed houses and narrow streets, has classified historic settlement status and was founded in the 18th century as a fishing and coastal lookout post.
The Porto Covo coastline breaks into a series of small beaches and coves separated by rock formations and abrupt cliffs: Praia da Samoqueira, Praia Pequena, Praia dos Buizinhos and the main beach. Each cove has different exposure and character — snorkelling, shore fishing or calm bathing depending on your choice.
Easy access from the EN393-1 road. Parking in the village centre; short walks to all beaches. Seasonal beach facilities and restaurants. Pessegueiro Island, visible offshore, is part of the same protected area and can be visited by boat in high season.
