Quinta do Lago Beach
Wooden boardwalks over Ria Formosa, flamingos and one of the Algarve's most accessible beaches.
Beach Information
About the Beach
Quinta do Lago Beach lies on the Ria Formosa barrier island — the system of barrier islands and islets that protects the southern Algarve coast from the direct force of the Atlantic. Access is via the iconic 1.4 km wooden boardwalk over the reedbeds and saltpans of the Ria Formosa, where flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) and black-winged stilts are frequently spotted along the route.
Quinta do Lago is one of Portugal's largest private nature reserves — 2,000 hectares of pine forest, golf courses and Ria Formosa habitat. Its inclusion in the Natura 2000 network and the Ria Formosa Natural Park guarantees legal protection for saltmarsh, dune and lagoon ecosystems. Beach access has inclusive infrastructure: ramps and an amphibious wheelchair available seasonally.
The beach itself is extensive and lightly frequented outside July-August; the south-facing orientation guarantees sun throughout the day. Paid parking near the boardwalk entrance. Seasonal beach bar service.
