Beach Information
About the Beach
Comporta Beach sits within the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve — 23,971 hectares of protected area established in 1980 that shelters a resident bottlenose dolphin community, over 200 bird species, and the only pink flamingo colony in mainland Portugal, visible in the adjacent rice paddies year-round.
The coastal strip between Tróia and Sines — of which Comporta is part — extends over 45 km of continuous Atlantic beach without urbanisation, one of the longest cement-free sand corridors in Western Europe. The first beach in Grândola municipality to receive a Blue Flag was Comporta itself.
Access via a dirt road from Comporta village (3 km); no direct public transport. Seasonal paid parking. The beach has no permanent facilities outside high season — bring water and sunscreen. Moderate to strong Atlantic swell; variable conditions depending on southerly wind.
